Archen is a tiny, bipedal Pokémon with reptile and avian characteristics. It features a huge, crimson head with noticeable scales and a neck with blue and red feathers. It has blue, clawed wings and a body covered in disordered, sallow feathers. It has tiny, slender legs and a twig-like tail with a diamond-shaped blue feather at the end. It has white eyes with black pupils but no irises.
Archen is extinct, yet it can be resurrected using fossils. It is thought to be the progenitor of all bird Pokémon, but current research shows otherwise. Because its wings are too tiny to fly, Archen roost on trees, bounce from branch to branch, and glide vast distances to catch food. Despite his inability to fly, Archen can leap. Archen is revealed in the anime to dislike Pokémon food but can produce a special plant with its screams. It likes the berries that grow on this plant.
