Hippowdon is a big, hippo-like Pokémon with gender-specific skin color. If male, it is light brown; if female, it is bluish-gray. It has a dark gray back and muzzle with several holes. Sand often flows out the openings on its back and nostrils. When attacking, this sand is kept inside and utilized to form twisters. It features a big, rounded snout, a mouth full of peg-like teeth, and bright red eyes. Hippowdon has four blunt claws on each of his black foot.
It has a quick temper, is readily aroused into aggression, and may exhibit strength by holding its lips open. The huge jaws of Hippowdon are capable of crushing vehicles. It works in tandem with Dwebble, who clears any stones that become trapped in its ports. Drapion are reported to avoid Hippowdon. Excess sand is evacuated from Hippowdon’s ports to make way for new sand to swallow, allowing it to remain healthy. It may also create whirlwinds of sand to destroy a foe’s spirits before assaulting them.
