Lugia #249

Lugia is a gigantic Pokémon that looks like a cross between a dragon, a plesiosaur, and a bird. It is mostly silver-white, although it has blue undersides with somewhat different tones. It has a ridged mouth like a beak, but its lower jaw contains sharp teeth. Lugia’s eyes have sharp blue or black spikes on them, and its skull has a point at the rear. Lugia is distinguished by a long, thin neck and a smooth, streamlined body. Dark blue or black plate-like protrusions run down its back, and two smaller, more pointed ones protrude from the end of its tail. It can accelerate by folding back these plates. Lugia has multiple scales that shield it from harm. It has enormous, hand-shaped wings. A juvenile Lugia has been sighted, albeit its gender is unknown, indicating that there is a breeding population. Lugia is said to be highly protective of its offspring.

Lugia is the fabled bird’s leader. When they battle for territory, Lugia is the only Pokémon that can stop them, as shown in the second Pokémon film. It, like the birds, has the capacity to affect the weather, most notably the ability to calm and cause storms. A light flap of its wings is reported to be capable of creating winds strong enough to rip an ordinary home down. If it flapped its wings, it could theoretically cause storms to last up to 40 days. It is incredibly clever, and because of the catastrophic power it may inadvertently unleash, it isolates itself deep beneath and prefers to sleep alone. It is incredibly unusual and seldom seen. Lugia has been dubbed the “guardian of the waters.” There are stories that Lugia will come during a storm’s night.

Lugia is the only Pokémon known to be capable of learning the move Aeroblast.
