Biology

Poliwag is an amphibious Pokémon that looks like a blue, spherical tadpole. It features big eyes and pink lips that may be used as suction cups for pebbles. It has a very thin skin that is flexible and tough to penetrate. Its belly has a black and white swirl, which is really its internal organs visible through its semitransparent skin. The swirl is clearer after a meal and will have a white tint if the Pokémon is infected. The orientation of the belly spiral varies by region, and it is assumed to be influenced by the equator.

Poliwag has recently formed legs with weak walking ability and no arms. It has a long, narrow tail that is encircled by a semitransparent bright blue fin. Its tail makes it an excellent swimmer. Despite the hazards, it enjoys waddling on land. However, if it detects danger, it will immediately return to the water. It cannot walk on land properly unless it is taught on a daily basis.

Poliwag is more likely to be seen swimming in tiny freshwater ponds and lakes due to its inability to survive on land.

Poliwag feeds on salveyo plant, which can only be found on clean lake bottoms in the anime.
