Biology
Salamence is a draconic quadruped with a long, tapering tail. It’s mostly blue, with a gray lower jaw and a heavily scaled underbelly. It has red patterns on its neck, tail underside, and stripes on the inside surface of its legs. There are also elevated crimson ridges over its eyes. Three flat fins sprout from each side of its head, presumably mimicking the function of a Canard on an aircraft. It features two pairs of pointed teeth, one in each jaw (upper and lower). It has three claws on each of its small legs. Salamence is an uncommon Pokémon owing to the circumstances of its development; its strong desire to fly sparked a biological mutation that enabled it to sprout big, crimson wings all of a sudden.
Salamence regularly soars about and fires tremendous blasts of fire as a show of its delight, its long-held desire now realized. It only comes to a halt when it is fatigued and needs to rest. When angered, it loses all sense of self and goes on an unbridled rampage, destroying everything in its path until it exhausts itself. It inhabits in difficult terrain and competes for food with Garchomp in midair.
As Mega Salamence, its wings fuse into a one massive crescent-shaped wing. According to the anime, the hardness and flexibility of its wings enable them to be employed as swords in mid-air confrontations. It has a narrower face, neck, torso, and tail, and its tail is notably shorter in length. The ridges over its eyes have faded, and it no longer has the thick, gray scaling across its lower jaw. Instead, the smooth red skin underneath has been revealed, giving it a more streamlined aspect. The top pair of fins that sit on the sides of its head have become longer and tapered. The lower pair has not altered much. The middle set, on the other hand, now takes the shape of quarter-arches that span towards the bridge of the nose. The vestiges of its shelled underbelly have been significantly modified into a segmented, more aerodynamic armored structure resembling a vest. This structure encases Mega Salamence’s chest and shoulders, with the sections interlocking whenever it tucks in its front forelegs.
The tension of Salamence’s renowned wings being deformed during its Mega Evolution drives it insane. This exacerbates its already vicious temperament and increases the likelihood that it may turn against the Trainer who reared it. Mega Salamence is known as “the blood-soaked crescent” as a result of this. Salamence’s bladelike wings sever everything and everyone in its path, causing no disruption to its flight.
