Biology
Zapdos is a huge bird Pokémon with mostly yellow feathers. It features tiny, triangular eyes surrounded by black and a long, slender, pale orange beak. Its wings and tail are covered with spiky feathers, while the rear of its wings and inner tail feathers are covered in black feathers. Its head is surrounded by a huge crest of spiky feathers. It has tan thighs and slender, bright orange legs. It has three forward-facing toes and one backward-facing toe, with a small talon on each.
Galarian Zapdos about to deliver a powerful kick.
When Zapdos flaps its sparkling wings, electricity is released, which has the ability to generate thunderstorms. When it flies, it makes tremendous crackling and cracking noises, which are attributed to the lightning bolts it sheds while in the air. According to legend, Zapdos emerges exclusively during thunderstorms and develops strength when hit by lightning. It is reported to reside in thunderclouds but is seldom observed.
Zapdos appears differently in Galar. It has a red-orange body with black plumage. It has yellow eyes with mask-like black colouring surrounding them, a shorter black beak, and a longer, more visible neck. It has black legs that are larger and more muscular, black thigh feathers, and yellow talons with red rings at their bases. Its red-orange wings are smaller, with faint black patterns that seem to be remains of its black plumage from its Kantonian cousin. Finally, it has a row of spiky feathers running down its breast and a similar row of black feathers running down its back.
Galarian Zapdos is a natural fighter who seeks out opponents stronger than himself to put his skills to the test. Its muscular legs enable it to deliver deadly kicks capable of shattering a dump truck, and it can sprint at speeds of up to 180 mph (300 km/h) through mountains. Its wings have atrophied to the point that it can hardly fly, yet its motions are as quick as a lightning strike. The electric-like crackling noises produced by its feathers rubbing together gave this Pokémon the moniker of its Kantonian counterpart. It is migratory and only occurs once every several decades at Dyna Tree Hill in the Crown Tundra.
Galarian Zapdos is the only Pokémon known to be able to learn the move Thunderous Kick.
