Zigzagoon is a quadrupedal Pokémon that looks like a raccoon dog and has bristly, zigzag-patterned hair. It features cream and brown fur stripes that are made by alternating layers of fur. It features a brown head and spiky ears, as well as a black nose. Its brown eyes are surrounded by a black mask-like design. The top portion of its mouth is jagged, and when it opens, its bottom jaw has two pointed teeth. It has three claws and pink paw pads on its feet. It has cream-colored forefeet, but brown rear feet. It has a spiky and bristly brush tail.

Zigzagoon native to Galar resemble its Hoennian counterpart with a few exceptions, most notably their black-and-white fur. It has crimson eyes encircled by a black spiky mask-like design that looks like stars. It has black forefeet with white claws and white forefeet with black claws. It has a long pink tongue that hangs outside its mouth, between its lower teeth. This Galarian variant of Zigzagoon is thought to represent the species’ oldest and presumably original manifestation.

Zigzagoon is insatiably interested, pacing back and forth and pressing its nose on the ground in quest of anything. It constantly travels in a zigzag pattern and leaves unique zigzag tracks behind it as it runs. It marks its territory by rubbing its bristly back hair on trees and playing dead in fight to trick opponents. The Zigzagoon seen outside of Galar are nicer and calmer than their Galarian counterparts. Zigzagoon may discover anything in the grass or dirt, especially those that have been misplaced. It is usually seen in grassy pastures.

Galarian Zigzagoon, like the Zigzagoon found outside of Galar, are notorious for being continuously on the move and never settling down. The zigzag motions seen on both variants of the species are thought to be the result of the Galarian Zigzagoon’s restless disposition. Their known habitat spans the whole Galar, including farms, woods, and towns. They like fighting so much that they often try to incite others to attack them. While this worked for other Pokémon, humans tend to misinterpret it as desiring love, to to the chagrin of the Zigzagoon.
